Photo tool
Old Photo Restoration takes one scan or phone photo of a damaged print and removes the creases, folds, scratches, dust, stains and torn corners, rebuilds the missing areas, sharpens the face naturally and either colorizes a black and white photo with realistic period colours or turns a faded orange cast back into natural colour. The prompt asks to keep the same person, expression, clothes and composition. Compare the damaged original and the result side by side.

Cracked black and white photo restored in colour

Old prints crack, fold, fade and lose corners. Restoration used to mean hours of retouching by hand; to restore old photos ai now repaints the damage in one pass, keeping what is still there and filling in what is gone.
Two things are worth knowing. Torn or missing parts are rebuilt as the AI’s best guess, not recovered, and when you colorize old photo prints the colours are an estimate of the period, not a record of what the person wore. Keep the original scan next to the restored copy.
One scan or photo of the print; the repairs and the colour are in the prompt.
The prompts behind the two cards: copy one, or open it with your photo and press Generate.

A flat, even scan, or a phone photo of the print taken straight on in daylight without glare or shadows. The sharper the face in the original, the closer the result stays to the person. This page is for photos of adults.
What is still visible is kept as closely as the prompt asks; what is torn away or faded out is rebuilt as the AI’s guess. Treat the restored copy as a repaired version, and keep the original scan.
No one can know the real colours from a black and white photo. The prompt asks for realistic period colours, which is an estimate. To keep the photo black and white, replace “gently colorize it with realistic period colors” with “keep it black and white”.
Yes. Change “the same person” to “the same people”. Use it for photos of adults only.
The result is a 1K picture (896 × 1200), enough for screens and small prints. For a large print, enlarge it afterwards with the AI image upscaler.
About one to two minutes for one picture. It is saved in My creations, so you can leave the page while it works.
