Baile Charme is the name for Rio de Janeiro’s Black dance parties set to R&B and soul, “charme” music, best known for the party under the Viaduto de Madureira. The charme dance is smooth and in step: the shoulders, the hands and a side-to-side groove, the crowd often dancing the same moves together.
The trend comes from a clip of an older dancer known as Seu Zé dancing charme in the middle of a street party while the crowd cheers. It spread on TikTok, and people now use AI to put themselves, their parents and their friends in that spot.
